NAPCORE at the Transport Research Arena 2026

The NAPCORE community was present at the BASt stand at the Transport Research Arena (TRA) to discuss the future of mobility data. The event served as a major hub for networking, insight-sharing, and exploring the future of National Access Points across Europe. Highlights from the session included a presentation on Alternative Fuels Data by András Selmeczy and Timo Hoffmann at the FEHRL Transport Research Village, alongside an interactive “Meet the Expert” session with Timo Hoffmann at the German pavilion.

Then, Stephen T’Siobbel highlighted the results of technical paper accepted: “Advancing Mobility Data Interoperability: TN-ITS’s Breakthroughs in Standards Alignment, Quality Frameworks, and Opportunities for AI-Driven Tools Development” Refinement of TN-ITS technical specifications.

NAPcore Alternative fuels 1st and 2nd workshop

On the 6th of May we had our first NAPCORE Workshop on Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR) data. Organised in cooperation with the European Commission and with contribution from the EVRoaming Foundation, EAFO (FIER), DATEXII, Eco-Movement, Charge Up Europe and E-mobility Europe.

During the workshop we had a peak attendance of 125 people in the meeting with a lot of discussion points raised by many. This is an encouraging number that reflects the great interest in interaction on this topic, but also an indication for NAPCORE that we meet a need with these sessions. We understand that a lot of information was shared during the workshop. To facilitate your follow-up, you can find here the slides presented. We have recorded the session (here the video) forfor your benefit. Feel free to (re)watch at your convenience.

Save-the-date for the next workshop:
September 25th, 2026 from 9:00 to 12:00 (CET) – Digital meeting via Teams

In addition to this, we will also plan a workshop during the NAPCORE Mobility Data Days which will take place on the 25th and 26th of November in Athens. We aim for this to be a hybrid session. More information on this one will follow in due time.

For more details on these workshop, you can read the full article on our website: NAPCORE Alternative Fuels – 1st Workshop | NAPCORE

NAPCORE at the Transport Poverty and Accessibility workshop

IIn Seville lives a “NAP Super user” when it comes to data on multimodal mobility. Indeed, the Transport Networks team in the JRC (Unit C6) of the European Commission uses data from NAPs all over Europe to feed its Transport Poverty Hub.
This team organised a workshop about transport poverty and accessibility on the 10th and 11th of June.

Transport poverty is composed out of four key dimensions: affordability, availability, accessibility and adequacy. The accessibility question is whether essential services and facilities such as schools, shops and hospitals are only accessible by car. This phenomenon is mapped Europe-wide at a fine geographical level by JRC Unit C6 in the Transport Poverty Hub. The researchers use our national access points for this purpose. David Schoenmaekers is the coordinator of our working group on multimodal mobility and was invited to explain the content of the NAPs for multimodal mobility services and what NAPCORE is all about.

Velo-city Conference 2026 – Delivering the Urban Dream

The Velo-city Conference 2026, organized by the NAPCORE Partner ‘European Cycling Federation (ECF)’ was held from 16 to 19 June 2026 in Rimini, Italy.
David Brunner (City of Hamburg) attended as co-leader of the ‘Cycling & Walking’ cross-domain theme within the NAPCORE project, with a mission to promote the use and provision of cycling data. During the academic session ‘From Research to Practice: Models vs. Reality’, on the first day, moderated by David, three different academic approaches to collecting and using data on cycling (and walking) were presented. Obtaining data for the projects proved to be a challenge in all three approaches presented. Researchers and associated projects therefore also benefit from the (harmonised) provision of (cycling) data via national access points.

If you are interested in the NAPCORE cycling data community, please contact the lead of the Cross Domain Team of Cycling & Walking Stephanie Kleine, or the Co-Leads David Brunner and Cristina Buraga.

The austrian NAP and planned update

The Austrian NAP - mobilitaetsdaten.gv.at - was developed in 2017 as metadata directory with an optional static data hosting (if the user needs it). The initial focus was on usability and creating minimal burden to publish and find metadata. Over time, several updates have been introduced, and in light of developments in NAPCORE and on the national level, the NAP requires complete reinvention.
The new NAP will stay a metadata directory with optional static data hosting, while adapting a new focus. The goal is to create better interaction between publishers and content consumers and better user experience by integration of user services, like subscriptions and news updates. Another focus of the new Austrian NAP is on interoperability and data exchange.

By using mobilityDCAT-AP for harvesting and providing metadata, the Austrian NAP will integrate surrounding NAPs and national open data portals to create an overview of mobility data in and around Austria.

The Danish NAP

The Danish NAP (Dataudveksleren) is a Hybrid NAP meaning it offers the users direct access to some data, and in other cases there is link to where data can be accessed.
Dataudveksleren is built with a strong user focus. It should be easy to fill in the metadata and the NAP supports good data governance – like sending an autogenerated email to data managers – reminding them after 150 days that it is time check the metadata description.
Some of the newest features and developments includes:

  • The Data Exchanger has been updated to fully comply with the current requirements for public data sharing (mobilityDCAT-AP v. 2.0)
  • It is now possible to log in using eID.
  • When creating a new dataset, the organisation and the data manager are now automatically filled in when you are logged in with MitID Erhverv or eID.

The front page of the NAP is very simple to avoid information overload.

Join us at the NAP Users Multimodal Forum ON OCTOBER 8th

Our working group on multimodal mobility invites you to the NAP Users Multimodal Forum 2026. It will be the first edition of this international online event, dedicated to actual and potential users of NAP data for multimodal mobility services (first and foremost data for multimodal travel information services). The Forum aims to strengthen dialogue between NAPs, service providers, researchers, public authorities, and other stakeholders.

The event will provide a platform to showcase concrete use-cases, exchange experiences, identify user needs and barriers, and demonstrate the practical value of NAP data in supporting innovative multimodal mobility solutions. Through a combination of presentations, interactive discussions, and stakeholder exchanges, the Forum will focus on practical results, interoperability, standardisation activities, and opportunities for collaboration within the NAPCORE ecosystem.

The Forum on the 8th of October will consist of three time slots, starting at 9 CET and closing by 16 CET. Although participation to the full day is recommended, it is possible to attend only one or two time slots. Our primary audience are journey planner developers, MaaS/MDMS and ticketing providers, data aggregators, mobility service operators and researchers. Data owners, public authorities’ representatives and NAP operators are invited as well. Good to know for the latter is that we will provide a toolkit in 2027 to facilitate the organisation of a similar event at a national or regional scale.

While we address ourselves to larger national and international stakeholders, all interested persons are welcome for sure. Registration to the Forum will open end of August.
